Created by Gimuy/Cairns-based The Ironing Maidens (Melania Jack, Patty Preece and Leigh-Anne Vizor) Hot & Heavy is an aural, visual and sensory experience that invites you to lose yourself, go deep and shake free. A surge of immersive sound design and augmented interiors, dance, aerials, a live ironing board electronic band and banging beats. MORE ABOUT THE SHOW HERE
What is the Afterparty?
Hot & Heavy explores the links between consumerism, capitalism, and climate change through performance, music, and the metaphor of the queer dance floor—a space where diversity, connection, and creativity become ways to imagine collective action. When we last presented the work in Gimuy/Cairns (2023), one of the strongest responses from audiences was: “What’s next? How can I get involved?”
To meet that energy, we have developed The Afterparty. Join this embodied, creative workshop where audiences can explore practical ways to step into climate action, connect with the Melbourne-based climate group - Climate for Change, and find pathways for ongoing involvement in your local area. Learn how to effectively communicate about climate issues, get inspired and meet other like minded people.
Benefits of joining this opportunity:
+ rare chance to work with award-winning queer artists from The Tropical North/QLD
+ connect with queer community to create something meaningful and impactful
+ learn new skills in communicating climate issues
Both workshops will be held at Vere Collective, 5 Vere street, Collingwood (off Wellington)
All show performances will be held at Meat Market, 3 Blackwood street, North Melbourne.
