Award-winning electronic duo, The Ironing Maidens are putting domestic labour, technology and the history of women in electronic music centre stage with their freshly pressed house beats in a high energy DJ Set.
This event forms part of Cairns Festival 2019 which runs from Friday 23 August to Sunday 1 September, with free and ticketed events at a range of locations across the Cairns region.

Woodfordia owes its beautiful, cultural parkland to The Planting. Our organisation, when it purchased this property in 1994, had a notion that rather than just sing about issues facing the environment, we get our hands dirty by planting trees.
The festival is held on a 500-acre parkland located on the Sunshine Coast Hinterland, on Jinibara Country, just over one hour north of Brisbane.

Project, are joining forces to kick off 2019 in style.
The Composer of the Future workshop has been designed for people who are interested in getting into the music industry as an electronic musician/producer, or for musicians who want to add more to their music and live performance.
Participants will learn the basics in Ableton Live, the foundations of how to use it for writing and arrangement and the endless possibilities for music creation.
The Facilitators Melania Jack and Patty Preece (The Ironing Maidens).
Patty has been the main tech on the Ironing Maidens performance piece, developing MIDI controllers and custom Synthesisers inside domestic irons to use as performance instruments. Patty works as a VET teacher and Lecturer, (Central Queensland Uni, SAE Byron Bay) specialising in studio production and music production for screen, radio and live performance.
Melania has 10 years' education and industry experience in music performance and film production. She has independently released two solo Ep's and has toured nationally and internationally. Melania was awarded Best Emerging Talent at the Byron Bay All Shorts Film Festival and Best Music Film Clip at the NCEIA Dolphin Awards.
